Video to GIF — Turn Any Clip Into a Shareable Animation
Video is great for watching, but GIFs are how moments actually travel across the internet. They autoplay silently in chats, embed in tweets and blog posts, attach to email, work inside design tools, and need zero player UI to do their job. Anytime you want to share a quick reaction, a product demo loop, a tutorial step, or a highlight from a longer clip, GIF is still the universal answer.
This tool converts MP4, WebM, MOV, and most other browser-playable video formats into animated GIFs. You pick the clip start, the duration (up to 15 seconds), the frame rate, and the maximum width. We then decode the video frame-by-frame using the browser's native video engine, quantise the colours to a 256-colour palette, and encode the GIF using gifenc — a fast modern encoder that produces noticeably smaller files than the old gif.js generation of tools.
Three settings drive almost everything about the output. **Frame rate** controls smoothness — 8–12 fps feels animated, 16–24 fps starts to feel like video but doubles or triples the file size. **Max width** is the biggest lever on file size; a 480-pixel-wide GIF is usually small enough to send anywhere, while a 720-pixel-wide GIF can easily run into tens of megabytes. **Start time and duration** let you trim before encoding so you only pay for the seconds you actually want.
Best of all, everything happens **on your device**. Your video file is read in the browser, decoded in the browser, encoded in the browser, and never sent to a server. That keeps your footage private and means even large clips don't have to be uploaded.
How It Works
Upload Your Video
Drag and drop any MP4, WebM, or MOV file. Phone recordings, screen captures, and short clips all work.
Pick the Segment
Set the start time, duration, frame rate, and max width to control how the GIF plays and how big it is.
Download Your GIF
Encoding runs in your browser. When it's done, save the GIF and share it anywhere.
Why Use Our Tool?
MP4, WebM & MOV
Works with any video format your browser can play, including phone recordings and screen captures.
Pick Any Segment
Trim down to the exact moment you want — up to 15 seconds — so the GIF is short and shareable.
Adjustable Frame Rate
4–24 fps slider lets you balance silky smoothness against file size in real time.
Smart Downscaling
Cap the width to shrink the GIF dramatically without affecting the timing or feel of the clip.
Browser-Only Processing
Your video never leaves your device. Encoding runs locally in your browser using gifenc.
256-Colour Palette
Modern colour quantisation keeps gradients smooth and faces looking natural at small palette sizes.
